Seward, Alaska is an exceptionally beautiful port city in southern Alaska that is considered to be the gateway to the breathtaking Kenai Peninsula and the Kenai Fjords National Park. This small town is located between the Kenai Mountains and the waters of the Kenai Fjords National Park and is considered to be one of the oldest and most beautiful towns in all of Alaska. With Mt. Marathon rising dramatically behind the town, it’s easy to see why Seward Alaska is such a popular destination. The Kenai Fjords National Park is one of the biggest attractions in Seward and is also one of Alaska’s most beautiful wildlife habitats. These cold waters of Seward’s harbor originate in the Harding Ice Field, a network of glaciers in the Kenai Mountains. The Harding Icefield can be accessed by hikers and is one of the central attractions in the Kenai Fjords National Park. Seward is also home to a thriving population of Humpback Whales and Orcas, in addition to otters, harbor seals, sea lions, and puffins, which are one of the most sought-after species for avid birdwatchers. Seward is also a major fishing destination, with charters leaving the harbor frequently between the months of May and September. Beyond enjoying the wildlife and scenery in Seward Alaska, it’s also home to Alaska’s most accessible glacier. It lies just 10 – 15 minutes from town, and is accessed via a gentle half-mile trail. It’s one of the few instances where you can quickly and safely get close enough to touch a glacier! Seward is also the southernmost point on the Alaska Railroad, which, in addition to a well-developed highway, links Seward to Anchorage and the rest of the Kenai Peninsula. Seward also serves as a northern port or several major cruise lines and is a common destination for tourists in Alaska.
